Ziel: Die meistgenutzten Funktionen und Bereiche weiter in den Vordergrund stellen/leichter nutzbar machen; wertvolle Resourcen prominenter darstellen.

In den 22 Monaten seit denen das aktuelle [phpBB.de][1] online ist, haben sich viele kleine Tools und Bereiche gebildet, die nur sehr notdürftig in die Site-Navigation eingebaut wurden — oder gar nicht. Diese gewachsenen Strukturen werden nun zurechtgerückt. Schwerpunkt des neues Layouts ist die einfache und schnelle (KISS, hi Steven) Auffindbarkeit der am häufigsten genutzten Bereiche der Site.

Da phpBB.de immer größer und inhaltsreicher wird, wollen wir dieser Entwicklung Rechnung tragen und den Schwerpunkt des Design auf den Inhalt legen — wir verabschieden uns also vom aktuellen, grafikgetriebenen Design und wenden uns einem leichten, hellen und offenen Design mit nur kleinen Akzenten zu. Und ich muss sagen, es gefällt mir wesentlich besser als das aktuelle. Clean & lean. Yeah ;)

Wer jetzt mal schaun will, den muss ich vorerst enttäuschen. Keine Screenshots, sorry ;)

Rojo auf deutsch: gregaire

[gregaire][] ist Open Source, benötigt PHP5 und optional (?!) eine MySql-Datenbank. Mal schaun, wie weit es beim [Multimedia Tranfser Wettbewerb][mmt] kommt ;)

Rojo - another string in the bow

Today I received an invitation — Google trendsetting again — to join [Rojo][].

Basically it’s yet another web based feed reader — this time aimed at social networks. Very much like Eurekster one can shares interesting items with ones contacts (Rojo: why not call it ‘friends’?).

Seems like I can send out invitations. So if your want one, leave me a message.

[Jeremy][] has some more information from [Web 2.0][web20]. Then there is the [Rojo Network][network] site that tries to explain what Rojo is and, last but not least, the [Rojo blog][blog].

PS: Selbst in der [Provinz][] spricht man schon von Rojo ;)

Bug oder Feature?

Tabbed-Browsing: Sicherheitslücken in mehreren Web-Browsern - Golem.de

Kai sagt es sei ein Fehler. Wenn das so ist, dann sollte das aber auch für Browser mit mehreren Fenstern gelten.

Daraus könnte man prinziell ableiten, das inaktive Browserfenster keine Fenster öffnen dürfen. Was passiert, wenn eine Webseite das tun will? Wird das Popup unterdrückt? Wird es aufgehoben für den Moment, in dem der Surfer das Elternfenster aktiviert?

Oder das ist doch nur ein Werbegag von Secunia — was ich ganz persönlich allerdings glaube.

Trackback RDF on index pages

Since I use my Linkdump alot I come across this quite often. When I dump a blog — the main page or another index page, not an entry — sometimes I leave an unwanted footprint. The Linkdump reads the whole page to save it to the database. Doing so it tries to extract a Trackback URI. It snaps the first Trackback URI it can find and pings back using this URI.

So what happens when I dump the main page of a blog containing Trackback RDF? Linkdump, merely doing its duty, pings the first entry leaving a footprint larger than intented.

Entry Trackback RDF belongs to entry pages — nowhere else. On index instead, one could add a special Trackback RDF for indexes if needed.

Follow up: eRONA and Bloglines

(Deutschsprachige Leser kennen vielleicht schon diesen Statusbericht, in dem es auch um Bloglines geht: WWWorker - Sascha Carlin: eRONA: Wo stehen wir?)

eRONA was developed more or less at the same time as Bloglines out of my need for a decent feed reader. While working on eRONA took some month (having a real life sometimes is a nuisance), most ideas were a bit older.

Im comparision to Bloglines eRONA is targeted towards feed reading by individuals and groups as well as aggregation, hence the name: easy RSS Online News Aggregator.

And of course eRONA was written for the sole purpose to learn more about aggregation and web services, whereas Bloglines somehow needs to make money out of it.

I highly respect Mark Fletcher and his work - eRONA does not strive to be a replacement nor to rival it.
